The 1973 Road Runner had a 318cui engine ex works. But our model here has already been optimized in terms of displacement to a 360cui engine in the past. However, this 360cui does not correspond to the classic low performance engine that Chrysler offered ex works. After a short test drive, we immediately felt that this 360 was more in the range of a 340cui high performance. With a full TÜV approval and H license plate, the 360cui engine can be registered without any problems, as it was also available ex works in this body. Among other things, the engine was optimized with an Offenhauser aluminium 4-fold intake spider in 360° design (dual plane) with matching 4-fold carburettor. Likewise, fan manifolds with a 2-flow exhaust system and the coveted original slottet chrome exhaust tips have been installed.
It now drives really well with the newly overhauled A904 automatic gearbox, which has also been fitted with a new torque converter. Instead of the original steering wheel gearshift, a B&M Megashifter is already installed in this vehicle.
Our Road Runner here had an A904 3-speed automatic transmission ex works. But anything is possible. Would you prefer to drive with a manual gearbox? No problem. We can also convert it to a 4-speed manual gearbox on request or simply support you in doing so, we can supply the appropriate parts. Two important changes have already been made to the car for such a conversion. The pedals have already been converted to the version with clutch pedal. In addition, the transmission tunnel has also been converted to 4 speed gearshift mounting. The version for 4 on the floor was installed here, i.e. without a center console and with a bench seat. The large 8 ¾ rear axle is optimally equipped to take the load. It has a gear ratio of 3.23:1, a rear axle lock and a sturdy 489 case.
Another option on this '73 Road Runner is the rear stabilizer bar, which means you can have fun with the engine in more than just a straight line! In contrast to the classic 1962-70 B-bodies, the rear axle is also significantly wider here, which also means that the car sits much better on the road than its predecessors. The front brakes are disc brakes. All rust through in the floor area of the vehicle has been professionally cut out and replaced with new sheet metal.
The following has now been done on the car:
upper & lower wishbone bushes replaced with new polyurethane ones
Tie rod bushes replaced with new polyurethane ones
Front axle parts blasted and painted
Connecting bushes between front axle and front frame replaced with new polyurethane ones
Complete front axle beams removed, stripped of paint, derusted and painted and reinstalled
All front stabilizer bar bushes replaced with new polyurethane ones
Wheel bearings and shaft seals on both front wheels replaced
Disc brake callipers on both front wheels dismantled, cleaned and overhauled
Rear axle brakes completely dismantled, overhauled and reinstalled
Brake system refilled and bled
Area under the windshield (cowl) cleaned and cavity protection applied
Interior floor panel repaired, with rust areas cut out and new panels made and welded in place (without overlapping).
Interior floor panel cleaned, primed, resealed where necessary and painted in body color
We laid a new carpet
The headliner has been reassembled by us
