Just arrived at The Garage!   1972 Triumph Spitfire lV – exceptional
The Triumph Spitfire made its first appearance at the 1962 Motor Show to considerable acclaim. Using the mechanical components from the well-established Triumph Herald on a slightly shorter chassis, the Spitfire boasted twin carburettors and offered lively performance at a modest price.    With winding windows rather than detachable side screens, the Spitfire offered a slightly more spacious cockpit than its Austin Healey Sprite / MG Midget rivals. Remaining in production until 1980 and undergoing a number of modifications to its mechanical specification and styling, the Spitfire has always had a strong and loyal following over the years.   Presented here is a MklV with the 1296cc engine. In exceptional condition throughout, this car was the subject of a body off chassis restoration to a very high standard and warrants close inspection. Carefully maintained regardless of cost, it is sure to delight an enthusiast seeking a really good example one of these characterful small sports cars. Sitting on alloy wheels and benefiting from a quality mohair hood, it certainly looks very distinctive.   There is a vast file of bills, lists of work carried out along with a handbook and workshop manual. There is also an album of photographs showing stages of the restoration.
