The founder of the Lagonda Motor Company - from 1913 Lagonda Ltd - was the US-born Wilbur Adams Gunn (1859-1920), who emigrated to Great Britain at the end of the 19th century. W.O. Bentley, who is considered today to be the greatest engineer of English automobile construction, headed the design office of Lagonda Ltd. from 1935 to 1940.
The LG 45 Rapide designed by Frank Feeley is for many connoisseurs the most exciting of all Lagonda. At the end of 1936, Lagonda presented the Rapide, which was considered the fastest road sports car at this time. With it, the company caught up with the great designs of Alfa Romeo and Bugatti. The ingenious design by Feeley is still convincing after more than 80 years!
This car was delivered in 1936 with a short chassis and pillarless saloon body. The car was completely restored a few years ago by Zimmerly in Königsbrunn and the body was converted to Rapide Tourer Specification by Rod Jolley. The total machines and electric were optimised for use in historic long-distance rallies. The car took part in the legendary Tulplen Rally (16-22 April 1950).

Just 25 Lagonda LG 45s were produced as Rapides between 1936 and 1938.
