Many an enthusiast we hear think that Aston Martin actually set its first footsteps in the automotive industry in the early 1950s thanks to David Brown. However, Lionel Martin was already in business in 1913 (!), selling cars under the name Singer Cars. Sorry Porsche fans, Lionel was first! In addition, Lionel was doing Hill Climb racing, under the name 'Aston Hill Climb'. Thus, Aston Martin was eventually born.
In 1947, the very wealthy gentleman David Brown came into contact with Aston Martin. Mr. Brown exchanged part of his wallet for shares in the sports car brand. Thus, the first DB was born. DB? Yes. David Brown. Say quite frankly, quite striking, however, You would have done the same yourself! Eventually DB became equivalent to Aston Martin, just like 911 to Porsche.
After only 16 DB1 examples, a totally redesigned car was presented in 1951 with many innovative technologies. The first examples all came with a 2.6 liter six-in-line with 105 British horses. However, from 1953 you had the option to tick the 'Vantage' option for 120 pounds including taxes. Besides being the first time Aston put the word 'Vantage' in its mouth, this was also a very desirable option among many a British Aristocrat. You got a 2920cc six-in-line block with a whopping 140 British polo horses. Much more potent in other words!
Ours? The Vantage, of course! Entirely nut & bolt restored in the Netherlands by Classic Car Venlo. Everything documented, brought back in original colors. Fully matching. Blue Haze on the outside with light blue-colored cows in the interior. Only 307 MK1s built, some with the 'Vantage' option. Very unique, Shaken, not stirred. Will we see you soon?
