Dodge Coronet 500 Coupé 1966
Historic car for sale
Dealer (DE)
Here we offer a 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 with the highest equipment package that was available ex works. It impresses visually with its red exterior paint as well as the completely red interior. Last but not least, you can't get enough of the beautiful, curved B-body lines of this classic.
We were pleasantly surprised by the two-door cruiser when driving it. The 318cui Poly (5.2L) V8 small block (230HP) impresses with a very wide rev range and consistently good torque. The gearshift behavior of the transmission and the rear axle ratio are selected in such a way that sufficient, pleasantly swift acceleration is always possible. Shifting is performed by an A727 3-speed automatic transmission with a gearshift on the center console.
An almost original piece of jewelry
The engine compartment is largely original and blends in visually with the overall picture. No modern aluminum radiator has been installed or the walls repainted in boring black. The only visible modification is the ignition box of the electronic ignition, which means that a wear-free contactless ignition distributor has already been installed. However, Dodge components have been retained here. It is the same system that Chrysler used in series production from 1973.
The Dodge Coronet 500 has only been in Germany since 2016 and has only had one previous owner since then. In that year, the car had already received four new shock absorbers, and the front axle was also completely overhauled after import. What it didn't have ex works was the front suspension stabilizer. As it is, you can glide over bumps on the road with peace of mind.
However, if you want to drive more sportily, we recommend retrofitting a stabilizer bar. Of course, we can also do this (and all sorts of other things) for you. We even have original front stabilizers in stock that we could fit at the front. Furthermore, a large and very stable 8 ¾ inch rear axle is installed.
The whole thing is supported by four new P235/70R15 tires, which we have just fitted and balanced. The steel rims, which have already been converted to 15, have the same design as those used on the Mopar police cars and have extra ventilation holes. They were painted in the same color as the car. The popular police stainless steel hubcaps (dog dish caps), also in the police version, were fitted as a top treat.
The Coronet 500 is braked with drum brakes and a manual brake system, i.e. without a brake booster. The brake system was completely overhauled in 2016 and documentation is available. It is still pleasant to cruise in, as the popular power steering option was already installed ex works. This was later also converted to a twin-pipe exhaust system, which produces a pleasant, not too loud, bubbling V8 sound.
The tank has already been replaced by a new one, so that you don't have to deal with constant carburetor overhauls due to the super-fine rust dust of older tanks. The fuel pump was also recently replaced.
The enclosed documents from the USA show that the Dodge comes from sunny North Carolina. Accordingly, its bodywork is in good condition and there is no rust through. Only the sill panel, under the wide rocker panel trim, has been repaired in the past. If you take a closer look, the paintwork has a few runs and ripples, but the overall appearance still makes a smart impression.
Most of the rubber body seals (trunk seal, door seals, quarter-window seals, hood bumper, etc.) have already been replaced. The windshield and seal have also been replaced.
This Coronet 500 has received the highest equipment package. This can be recognized, in addition to the emblems on the outside of the vehicle, by the chassis number WP23E67214994, where the P stands for the premium price class of the vehicle. The original title from North Carolina is included, as is the original owner's manual. We were also able to find the original Dealer Warranty Card in the engine compartment. The fender tag is also present and shows us the equipment with which the Coronet left the Chrysler plant in 1966.
Fendertag decoded:
a6 = console b4 = bucket seats p6 = remote drivers door outside mirror AB41 = 318 C5 = automatic transmission R1 = 2 watt AM radio SO204(birthday of the car) = April 20th WP23(Body) = Coronet, Premium, 2 Door Hardtop P4R (interior)= red PP1 (exterior color )= bright red Q(upper inner door paint)= dark red
In keeping with the premium price class, it has stainless steel wheel arch chrome and also a wide trim strip along the sill (rocker panel molding). All the stainless steel trim (front and rear windows etc.) is in fantastic condition, something we don't often see on classic muscle cars anymore. The striped emblems (striped trim) on the rear side panels, by the way, were only available on the 500 models. They are the starting point for the contour lines in “Coke Bottle” form, which will be even more clearly defined on the upcoming models in the coming years.
The chrome on the bumpers is no longer quite perfect, it seems a little tired, but it still looks good. However, as the bumpers are dent-free overall and have no rust damage, it would probably be possible to have them re-chromed here in Germany at a reasonable price. We have already sent a price inquiry to the supplier.
It is not only the red exterior paintwork, which is framed and adorned by lots of chrome parts, that is impressive. It is also the fact that the color scheme can be found throughout the interior of the premium equipment variant. The interior is in good original and well-maintained condition. The easily foldable, red individual seats and the comfortable rear bench seat are intact. As is the red headlining. The center console with storage compartment is located between the front seats. The steering wheel is nothing dramatic, but still rare to find. It has a chrome ring 360 degrees around it to operate the original horn. Almost all others only had 270°. The technical name for it was “Full Blow” Steering Wheel.
Not from the 60s but probably from the 70-80s is the cassette deck, which was retrofitted under the dashboard. We almost considered removing it, but it works well, as do the speakers built into the rear shelf. As with all our sales vehicles, our boss will not miss the opportunity to test drive the car both long and short distances. In this way, we make sure that nothing has been overlooked in the static view of the vehicle and that the car really drives reliably. Technically, the vehicle has already been checked and overhauled by us, and we have carried out the following repairs:
We have completely replaced the brake fluid Engine oil and filter change has also been done by us four new and good VR tires mounted and balanced
The car already has German TÜV and H license plates. The vehicle registration document contains the appropriate sizes for the “small” license plate for the front and rear. The larger tires and the 15” rims are also already registered in the documents.
We can advise you on all conversions or modifications that you can imagine or implement them in our Mopar only specialist workshop.
In addition to the original documents, the vehicle comes with some nice extras! A road map of North Carolina from 1968 and several red suitcases for stylish travel. The pretty red, both inside and out, are the original colors with which this car left the assembly line. We think that together they make the Coronet 500 look really fascinating. When you sit in it, you are immediately beamed away to another time and can forget some of the daily stresses and strains and enjoy life!
So if you like the car, you can come and have a look at it by appointment. The car is in our Moparshop showroom in 59399 Olfen.
