DKW was a German automobile and motorcycle factory founded in Chemnitz in Saxony in 1916. The founder was the Danish engineer Jørgen Skafte Rasmussen who established it to produce automobiles with steam engines (the acronym stood for Dampf-Kraft-Wagen, i.e. car powered by steam).
