Mazda Motor Corporation, commonly known as Mazda, is a Japanese automobile manufacturer headquartered in Fuchū, Aki, Hiroshima Prefecture.

Despite being a relatively small company, Mazda sold approximately 1.3 million vehicles worldwide in 2007, most of which (approximately 1 million) were produced in the historic Hiroshima plants, with the remainder in smaller plants around the world. In 2011, Mazda was the world's eighteenth largest automobile manufacturer.

The distinctive features of the Hiroshima company have always been the adoption of original solutions that went against the trend of the rest of the automotive market, such as the use of rotary engines on its cars, the successful reintroduction of roadsters at a time when they were considered anachronistic cars, or, more recently, the production of SkyActiv engines that went against the trend in terms of displacement and setup compared to those of its competitors. This mindset was then transformed into the house's main slogan to strengthen the brand at a marketing level, Defy Convention ("challenge convention").
